COMING FROM
Coming from HexOS
HexOS made a NAS simple to set up. Here is what changes when you move, and what stays the same.
What HexOS got right
HexOS brought real design thinking to NAS management. The UI is polished, the onboarding is smooth, and it proved there's a market for homelab software that doesn't require a wiki to operate. Credit where it's due.
What changes for you
Run more than one box and a dead one does not take your apps and virtual machines down with it. Rehome starts them on another node, and brings them home when the box is back.
Ask the box what is wrong. Nova reads the box's state and answers in plain words, so you are not clicking through screens to work out which part failed.
Your storage pools are ZFS. The box finds them on the disks you already have, so your files come across as they are, without copying everything to a new array first.
Migration
- Back up your data (always, regardless of what you're migrating to)
- Download the Eight.ly OS ISO
- Eight.ly auto-detects existing ZFS pools — your data carries over
- Redeploy your containers from the 3,400+ app catalog
